“Unglued” ~ Giving Away 3 Signed Books!

July 9, 2012 | 338 Comments

“…do what is honorable…”
Romans 12:17

We have a gift for you!
OK, the bag is totally my gift…
and I am not sharing that…
but there are three books inside from Lysa
 to give away here at
Joy In The Truth!  Thanks, Lysa!

Relationships and connections ~ two things on the top of my list of passions and priorities.  That’s why I LOVE this newest book by my very gracious friend Lysa TerKeurst!  (The Lord brought Lysa and I together as friends several years ago, and she sweetly refers to me as a “good friend”, though I think the “good” might have been challenged last week after I provided her daughters with off-limits “pyrotechnics” and after my husband broke into the TerKeurst cabin while we were on vacation…but those are stories for another day!  Just note that she did not become Unglued by either circumstance, rather she met them with grace and humor!)

Me and Lysa with “Unglued”
at Camp-of-The-Woods ~ July 2, 2012
Lysa’s newest book Unglued, is due to be released on August 7, 2012, and I am genuinely excited! I totally connected with Lysa’s message in Unglued because of my own vulnerability to become unglued in the midst of a difficult relationship and because of my own continual need for God’s grace and wisdom in every relationship with which He has blessed me.

Truth is, we can all be difficult.  Unglued steps us through the process of identifying how we react to difficult situations and teaches us through Biblical truths how to respond in ways that honor God.

At the heart of Unglued, Lysa’s message is about connections and relationships.  Our relationship with God.  Our connecting with His Word daily.  It’s about nurturing healthy and God-honoring relationships with family and friends, even when they can be difficult…or when we ourselves can be challenging.  And it deals with the truth that, once in a while, we have to prune an unhealthy relationship from our lives.

In this book, Lysa demonstrates how our relationship with God flows down into our relationships with family and friends and others.  In her sweet, southern, down-to-earth kind of way, Lysa unearths the treasures of being unglued and reminds us that imperfect progress is progress and growth nonetheless.

Unglued?  Perhaps at times.  But Philippians 1:6 promises us that God doesn’t leave us unfinished.  There is hope!  His hope.

“And I am certain that God,
who began the good work within you,
will continue His work until it is finally finished
on the day when Christ Jesus returns.”
Philippians 1:6
Imperfect progress.  Prepared godly responses to challenging situations ~ the fruit of our abiding in Him.  Godly integrity of our soul.  Steps toward holiness.  Peace.  Honor.
Unglued.

I underlined just about every sentence in this book. I don’t say this often, but this is a must-read for women!  And my husband loves this book, too!  We think Unglued is for everyone!

Unglued will be released on August 7, 2012!!  BUT I HAVE THREE ADVANCED READING COPIES OF UNGLUED SIGNED BY LYSA HERSELF!!!!

Lysa sweetly gave me three signed copies of the “advanced reading copy” to give away to three of my readers!  This book is also great for a small group Bible study (you can order the DVD teachings by Lysa and the workbooks! CLICK HERE).

HOW TO ENTER TO WIN:  LEAVE A COMMENT AND PROMISE ME TWO THINGS:
If you can relate to feeling unglued at times…or if you have a difficult person in your life…or if you ever experience conflict in relationships…and if would like to enter to win a copy of Unglued, please leave a comment here with your name and email address.  You just have to promise me two things:
1.)  You will pray today for someone specifically who tends to be a difficult person in your life (please do not tell us who that person is!); and
2.)  You will ask the Lord to search your own heart to see if there are any offensive ways in you that He wants to change through His truth.

“Repay no one evil for evil, but give thought to do what is honorable in the sight of all.  If possible, so far as it depends on you, live peaceably with all…overcome evil with good.”
Romans 12:17, 21 (ESV)

“Love your enemies, and pray for those who persecute you…”
Matthew 5:44 (ESV)

“Search me, O God, and know my heart;
test me and know my anxious thoughts.
See if there is any offensive way in me,
and lead me in the way everlasting.”
Psalm 139:23-24 (NIV)

We may feel unglued, but we are not unfinished.  He who began a good work in us is faithful to complete it!

Check back on Friday when I announce the winners of Unglued!

WOW….someone's been living in my household and KNOWS this book was written for ME! I so needed this book over a year ago. There is a tremendous need for me to learn how to respond to situations and people in my life when I feel bullyed as an adult, especially by family members. More importantly I want to be the example to my grown children how to handle these types of relationships as a Christian. What you ask us to do Sharon is not too much. Consider it done. I so look forward with an expectant heart to read Lisa's "Unglued". I know it was written for me.

I am interested in receiving this book as I am currently in a situation with someone close to me and am in need of guidance on how to deal with the situation now and in the future. I have been praying for her daily and have no plans to quite but could really use a resource on how to deal with the situation.

OMG! this is awesome.. I was looking at preview for book & am soooo excited! YES>> I definitely have many moments when I feel "unglued"… I was recalling yesterday's sermon entitled "Keyed In" to God's calling for you to be all you can be & referenced the verses (paraphrased) "do NOT judge lest you be judged, do NOT condemn lest you be condemned; forgive & you shal be forgiven, Give & you shall be given" I too have 2 inidviduals in particular that I need to pray about/for.. my actions & reactions to them.. I need to the Lord open the eyes to my heart to reveal those ways in which I am being offensive, judgemental, condemning, unforgiving, or selfish… It is all easy to get sucked in by Satan w/ negative thoughts & actions somedays & It is something I will make a commitment to starting today to have God open my eyes when those offensive ways overcome me… L.Holseberg99@comcast.net I am so encouraged!!

Reacting on emotions have always been a weak area of mine. I am learning that although emotions are a part of the way God made us and are wonderful at times, they often can deceive us. I still have a long way to go though. I do have someone on my heart to pray for and promise to do so and will pass the book on too.

So it's a constant struggle and all I have learned is that I can only control my response. But am I causing the stress or allowing it to do damage? That is the question I struggle with most days. And yes, Lord how do I need to change? Are there any wayward ways within me? I would like to win Lisa's book to help with all of this. Thank for considering.

God definitely knows what you need and when you need it. I have a person that has me coming "Unglued". This person says things that are not true and wants to blame others for things that are their responsibility. I have been through a range of emotions with this situation (mostly tears) because I do not know how to respond. I have been praying for this situation daily; not just for this person but for me to handle this situation with grace. I know God is trying to teach me something from this. I promise to do the two items you mentioned. I would love to win a copy of the book.

In the midst of life, I have become "unglued" a number of times. In the past three weeks, I've welcomed my 1st grandchild who was a month early followed by a heart catheritization with possible bypass surgery for my husband. I came "unglued" many times over. But God' grace and strength have brought me through. We start Bible school tonight. Winning a copy of "Unglued" would be a perfect way to end the week. I will pray daily for the persons who most often bring difficulty to my life. I am also praying that God will use me and show me what I need to change to correct this. May God be glorified in all I say and do!!

Hi Sharon! I'm glad I ran into your blog through Lysa's blog, I will be signing up for your daily blog stories as well. I would love to win a free copy of Unglued for myself! I am my own difficult person, and although I try to stay far away from conflict, it usually finds it way by my side some how n some way unfortunately. So, I would treasure reading Unglued, by our dear, sweet friend Lysa for more insight on how to remain grounded during these difficult situations. Thank you for the chance to win, take care God bless, Shamar.

What if both people are me? grin Seriously though, I come from a long line of "unglued" people and I hate that heritage. I have broken the major line but will still get a bit "unglued" when things aren't optimal. I will pray for myself and others who are over active. My family calls it going Caldwell on someone. In case it isn't clear that is our family name.

I am currently doing this! The Power of a Praying Wife has allowed me to pray for my husband in ways I never dreamed I could. As well, I have found that MY attitude and actions had to change in order to 'release my husband to do what God needs him to do'. I WILL buy Unglued and apply that to my life as well! Thank you for making 'us frustrated Christian women' feel welcome and normal! ♥

My daily prayer is that God will help me to be the mom my kids need and that He has called me to be. My biggest challenge where I come unglued at times is with my oldest son age 9. I realize it is because we are alike in many ways. When I was growing up I was either tuned out or yelled at and I find myself yelling at my kids and I have in the past tuned them out. When I see my son behave in ways I believe he learned from me I feel awful. I want to show him the right way to handle stress and if I am not consistent then he won't learn. I will admit that they don't ask God to help mommy not to yell as much as they used to but it is still a struggle. I know that God will continue to change me as I surrender it to Him. I promise to pray for him daily and to ask God to search me and show me where changes need to be made so that I may surrender them to him daily. As I typed that promise fear set in because I know at times I fall short. Maybe I will just have to set a reminder. Nothing wrong with that. I can't always depend on my mind to remember to do things. Many blessings!

I'm indeed in need of the book "unglued." I could have used this years ago, but I know that God is indeed doing a work in me and has provided Lysa's book as a blessing to be used during my unglued moments with a certain family member. I need to be shining Christ for all those around me on a daily basis. I've committed to pray for the person(s)who cause me to become unglued as well as for myself in the way that God would have me react during those times.

My life became unglued on June 21,2012 when my dad was killed in a motorcycle accident. He was the one who held the family together, mediated arguments between siblings, my mom & me and was one of my best friends. He had a quiet strength, strong faith,& loved spending time with his family. He was my confidant. I will miss his words of strength. Fortunately, my family spent lots of time with my parents. His74th birthday is today.

Love, love the vaca-photos! I am waiting on pins & needles for the book release due to one of my very best friends is going through an extremely messy divorce and she is unglued daily. She is on the verge of accepting Christ and trusting him with all this mess. I want her to have the book. I have faithfully forwarded P31 devotionals to help boost her hope-levels, and amazed to see how God is working through this tragedy. She is running from God, rather running to God. Unfortunately (or fortunately), it seems God may be using this terrible divorce to bring her home. Anyway – she could REALLY use the counsel right now.

    Thank you!

No matter how perfect and good we think our lives are, we all become unglued at some point due to stress, being pulled in many directions, lack of sleep, and the urge to want to be the perfect mom! I completely understand the rush for vacation….we have a small lake cabin that we frequent often in the summer and even though we go often, it often is a frenzy right before packing up the van and leaving as I'm trying to tie up loose ends at home and making sure that I have all that I need with to continue to work from afar! But, sunsets like the one Lysa showed shared with a hubby and kids make it all sooo worth it! Would love to have a copy of "Unglued"! Marlene D — joemar@springgrove.coop

Though I rarely come unglued outwardly, I often find myself internally coming undone. I have been hurt deeply by someone very close to my heart, & seem to be wary of the intentions of others… on guard. Im so determined not to be taken for granted that I am hesitant to receive love. I have a hair-trigger response to any percieved slight. I am misrable without close friendships and fearful in opening myself up to new ones. I have tred to let ho and forgjve and mive forward, much better now, over a year later, but Having that old wound scratched sends me into an emotional tailspin so fast I often dont have time to step back and chose a different reaction. I am coming unglued from the inside out, & it is tearing me apart. I hope Lisa's book will help.

Yes I can totally relate to being "unglued." I am a 24 year old girl living with 4 other people; My father, my cousin/best friend, my fiance (we DONT share a room!) and our roommate M.

our house is chaotic at times.. and I'm really looking forward to reading the book Unglued because there are times that I am not very nice… I get picky about who puts what where, and who's going out to do laundry, and I work full time so I tend to hope that other people will take care of the house.

I have asked god to change me.. deep inside my heart. I don't want to be this stressed out impatient person. I care about everyone who lives here. I love God and I want to resolve matters in a loving way.

I will pray for someone I am thinking of, a person who has mental problems and this person deserves some love and prayer… Lord I am sorry for being impatient with her…

Mentally, physically or spiritually. I realize that she may be transitioning at some point but her manipulation and lies are overwhelming. My mother is having a real hard time surrendering her will and control to God and it affects everyone around her. I promise to stay in the word and I promise to keep praying. What a tremendous prize to win! I teach high school and made a small teenage book study… What greater gift for us to uncover then the ability to remain glued together and focused on God at all times?!
I will pray for not one, but all those who have the ability to pull me apart. My heart and mind are the canvas for God to do His work and I pray He does, in His time.

Boy do I need this book! My life has become increasingly difficult in the relationship area recently. I got married after being single for 14 years while I raised my children. I married a man who tests my patience daily! I know I need to change just as much as he does. The difference is I can't change him! He also has cancer and I have a prodigal child. yeah, I need help! 😉 I'm not the calm, loving person I used to be with all the storms in my life. I become depressed and full of anxiety. Sounds like this book could help me. 🙂

I am definitely felling unglued as my husband, a man of God who loves and adores me, has just divorced me with no explanation. HE stated in court that the reason was because I yelled I love you across the church foyer. We have been married 32 years on Thursday. I fell like I'm in the Twilight Zone, but I know that God has a plan for our lives. He will receive the glory. I need wisdom in how to respond to my husband and my daughter's.

I am an unglued person. I have stepped up my faith tremendously in the past year and am pleased with my relationship with God, and am working towards my dealings with others. I love Lysa, am in a Made to Crave Bible study currently. I have been dealing with my father's decline in health as I take care of my mother, my husband who just had knee surgery, my two childen, and being a kindergarten teacher. At times I am overwhelmed, but know that God carries me. I will be putting some burdens away today as I pray for someone who has tried to hurt me deeply, I am forgiving her and praying for God to help heal us and mend the friendship. I am also going to look at myself deeply at your request. If I do not win, I will be buying this book in August. Thank you for this chance!

I would love to win this book!! I am working on identifying and praying over the areas in my life in which I am difficult and I have recently started praying for the most difficult person in my life every day. I know that some of the reasons I react badly in a situation are due to self-criticisms that I superimpose over what other people are saying to me. Trying very hard to work on that with God's help.

Although I look to God first and then my husband also as he continuously leads me to Christ, I am thankful for the ways God uses Lysa and Sharon who stay dedicated to encouraging other women in their relationships with Christ. Oh, someone has been peeking into my life again! I do indeed feel unglued — and woke up with a phone call from that difficult person. I breathed a quick prayer before I picked up the phone, all the way through the call, and hit my knees once it was over. How do people make it without our Gracious Forgiving God? I am searching His wisdom in dealing with me, and as I deal with others. This book giveaway just might give me a glimpse. I would be blessed by them, I'm sure. You have my promises 😉

Sharon, I would love to have the oppointunity to have a signed copy of Lysa's new book. There are so many times I think we all feel unglued in our lives, but here recently it feels even more so for me and my family. I lost my father unexpectedly four months ago on August 22, 2012. He had a massive heart attack with no warnings and no previous illness. Our family has been under so much turmoil since then. Daddy was only 63 years old and the heart of our family. And without him we have felt lost. My husband and I live in Ohio, becuase he is in the military, but all of our family lives in NC. We have two years left before he retires. He is working on his Masters in Divinty degree. We have three young children under the age of 13. And now we are faced with a decison of do we stay together as a family and move together to Mass. where he just got new orders to go to. Or do the girls and I move back to NC to help my mother during this difficult time. My life totally feels unglued right now becuase I feel like I'm being pulled in different directions. My family and I are trying to stay focused on God and draw strength from Him.But it is so difficult though all of this. Because as we all know deaths bring out either the best or worst in people and there are some difficult family members, that makes it all the worse. I love them nomatter what and will continue to pray for them too. Please pray for our family either way and again thank you so much. ablanton72@hotmail.com

In that moment of becoming unglued, I see what is behind the raw emotion and it is ugly to say the least. This book was written for me! I would love to win a copy, but quite honestly I will end up buying a copy even if I'm not selected a winner. I prayed for the person that tends to be difficult in my life (or the person that I let make my life difficult) and I also prayed for myself that God would show me areas of my heart that need to change through His truth.

I feel like this book would be an answered prayer. I've truly been struggling with having Godly relationships in my life and being a reflection of Christ in my ever word and action. I'm a pre-adoptive foster mom and for a year I have to take my son to see his birth parents once a week. It's an extremely hard situation and I pray that I can be a witness to them but there are weeks I have to just take a deep breath and walk away.

I'd love to be able to read this book during this period in my life and hopefully pass it along to another young lady in my church.

    Thanks!

I have been wondering what Lysa's book, "Unglued", is about and I am glad to read about it here. Sounds like I need to read it! I have already been praying for the Lord to help me to deal with a difficult person in my life. I am confident of this that the same good work that God began in me and will complete, God also began in this person and will complete it. I pray that very frequently. Also praying that God would show me where I am offensive to others as well!!

oh how often I feel unglued. I've realized that on my worst days however is when i didn't make time to spend with God. Yet, knowing this I still have too many of those days. I promise to pray for that someone. Even though they can be difficult I am so thankful that God put them in my life. I promise to pray that the Lord will show me the areas in my life He wants me to change and that I will be obedient.
I know these books will end up in the right hands. Even if I'm not one of the winners, I will purchase the book and I will also get a copy of this book for someone in my life whom I think will benefit.

I am praying, have prayed, and will continue to pray as u you have suggested.

Hi. I am loving the devotions everyday. Also I am in a BS on "Made to Crave." Only two more weeks to go. Letting God be in charge of me has been a blessing. I am losing weight and attitude! I would love to read Lisa's new book "Unglued." I really came unglued four years ago and God has been patiently pasting me back together through reading the word and clinging to the verses He gives me. Also much prayer, Bible studies, family and sisters in Christ have been paart of the healing. "Life is hard; but God is good." by Pam Thum is my life song and motto! "Praise You in this Storm" by Casting Crowns has been my standard these past four years. I am already in the process of working out your two conditions, so I can promise you to fulfill them. God's Blessings to you all. PS. Let someone else get the book if my name is picked; somone who really needs it.

This has led me to a life of anxiety and depression, a breaking point, and now strained relationships with those closest to me. I know God wants more for us and I now want more for myself. Tears are not uncommon in my week. I know that God gives me the strength to make it through each day but there are so many times I want to just quit… I want the world to stop turning so I can get off for at least a little while. That sounds silly, but I just get so tired, mentally and emotionally. I will be praying for this person and I will pray that God will show me what changes I need I make as well. You know the ones..you see them coming and you cringe?? And you are silently thinking to yourself.."Why Me Lord"?? This along with my mother going through cancer the last year and a half, my dad having major heart surgery, my step grandaughter being raped, step daughter (who has 3 sons) losing her home, and my son just getting married….hmmm…Do I sound like I am coming unglued?? From Betsi:
My personal comment regarding the book is simple. If I could sit and tell my story, it would give an entirely new definition to "unglued". All I have left, LITERALLY! is God. I feel this book would be an absolute treasure to my Spirit at this time. I love your ministry and give thanks for all you do. As an Army wife and mother of 5 (yes I said FIVE) BOYS I can relate to her as she lives in a house of chaos. I'm reminded that I'm not a perfect wife or mom, mixed in with those "sandpaper" people, but thats ok. That's why we have an amazing God. I pray daily for the people that test my faith, (and yes sometimes my list is a little long.)There's a lot of hurt and brokeness out there so I seek, reach out, encourage, and lift up in every way I can. Can I say it seems as though I am living in unglued? I am learning though that I am not alone and through this time of my own uncertainty I can use what God has given me to help others that are also unglued. I am really excited about the study.

Not sure if my last post worked? I don't see it. I am in a state of unglued now. But God is showing me in my slow learning that in my state of unglued, he is using it for me to minister to others in their unglued. I really am looking forward to this study.

I already, and will continue to do the second requirement. The first was harder because the first people I thought of were the ones who wounded me the most.

Then I realized that wasn't specifically what the contest required and I thought of the difficult people. I will be praying for them. But because God but the wounding people on my heart to, I will be praying to get to a place where I can genuinely pray for them too.

Unglued is a much needed book for me. For unglued has been ever present in my adult life…for what I have experienced at times and it has resulted in being ashamed for not being able to share my feelings in a positive way; because I clam up and hold it inside. Doing this action has resulted in being non-confrontational..Not knowing the proper time to confront, verses when not to confront.I am a believer of Jesus Christ and ALL that he stands for and is telling us to be like. I did not truly take it seriously about he is asking us to become the word. But have found out during these last 18 months being unemployed, putting in applications and resumes every where across the United States. that has resulted in interviews and nothing else. It has been a challenge trying to believe and trust in God; knowing that he is the same God that was with me 3 years ago when we where fighting cancer and the Lord shared how he was going to heal me, but I had to go through it to get to it. For the people he would be sending my way, would need to hear my testimony. It is a season of being on the threshing floor with the lord…for he shared with me in 2003 that he was going to break me….know God mean what he said…and you could never imagine how he will do what he has stated he would do. It is during this time that you learn about a God who is a disciplinary, yet he loves you. One who, desires for you to seek him with your whole heart and yet be chastised by a loving and forgiven father, Please lift me up upon the lords alter, so that he can create in me a clean, teachable, joyful in all seasons and pure heart. a spirit humble, submitted, grateful, and that walk in love at all times. As it is stated in 1 Cor 13… For I really do need this book… Thank You and God Bless…..

As a military wife and a stay at home mom of 3 small boys, I often come unglued, feel guilty, promise myself that I won't do it again–then do it again, and the cycle repeats itself. As a single mom when my husband is gone I have so much weight on my shoulders with no support system and I take it out on the ones I love. I desperately need this study and am looking forward to it!

All of my life I have felt "Unglued". I tend to bottle feelings and reactions to situations aand eventually I explode. This leaves my loved ones hurt and confused, wondering where all of this anger caame from over a little situation. Now that I have 3 children ages 4 and under, I find myself needing to resolve the conflicts within me. There is nothing worse than exploding in front of or at your children. I feel ashamed and baffled by my reactions. I promise to pray daily for my relationships with others as well as for God to help heal my emotions. I couldd really use this book!

Then I saw the write up for the new book -unglued- I looked around my home to see of there perhaps was a hidden camera somewhere.. I often think if we could just get through one day without some kind of conflict I would just fall over. I would love to winamp copy of this book, I'm sure it would benefit not only myself but our entire women's group. Love the devotions by the way!
