My Nine Sentences ~ “Unglued”

July 13, 2012 | 2 Comments

“My heart is overflowing with a good theme;
I recite my composition concerning the King;
my tongue is the pen of a ready writer.”
Psalm 45:1

A Tuesday evening last September, I sat in the middle of my kitchen floor quietly crying.  We had just received medical confirmation that my sweet mom’s health was beginning to decline, I sensed the painful betrayal of someone I had once called friend, and I was feeling overwhelmed with the rigors of a new school year for our wonderful children.

There was nothing exceptional about what I was feeling really.  These are all things many of us face in life at one time or another.  And yet at that moment, when the coming together of many difficult things at once flooded over my heart with sadness, God met me.

The Exceptional One transformed those unglued moments into sanctified steps of growth.

Sweetly humbled by the Holy.
Precious moments with my Savior on my kitchen floor.
In my brokenness and through my unglued self, He met me with His perfect love.
“You are the God-Who-Sees-Me…
I have now seen the One who sees me.”
Genesis 16:13
Often times in the most painful times of life, His presence is the greatest.  The cold kitchen tile became my sanctuary and my threshing floor that evening.  God met me with His grace and His truth.  I will always remember those kitchen floor moments that Tuesday evening last September.
The next morning after my quiet time with the Lord, I felt the Him whisper to my heart email Lysa and tell her what happened last evening.  Tell her how I met you on the kitchen floor.

Ah-hem…what?  Does Lysa really need to receive this email?  I had been part of a team praying for Lysa as she wrote her new book “Unglued”, and I wanted to be sensitive about sending unnecessary emails.  Is this necessary, Lord?  Is this You?

The prompting did not go away, and so I obeyed.

A short time later, I received an email from Lysa that put me in jaw-dropping awe of God’s goodness and faithfulness! I didn’t know why He wanted me to send the email, but He made that clear.

Yes, yes, yes, my friend!  This is it!  Thank you for your honest unglued admission.  It makes us feel a little more normal when we know we are not alone.

Lysa asked me if she could include what I had shared in a chapter she had just written titled “Coming Unglued Isn’t All Bad” and in a sub-section called “A Step Toward Holiness”.

Nine sentences.  An act of obedience.  And a reminder that He redeems our unglued moments when our hearts are postured in humility before Him.

“In the ugliness of my unglued  self,
I realized the blessing of unglued…
if we let it, unglued will allow us to become
humbly and beautifully broken before Him.”

    Well, I sit here "unglued" as I thought I had today to enter! lol The Lord knows I have way too many books to read right now, I guess, but He also knew that I needed to start reading your blog. I blog, sorta. I write, sorta. Self-discipline: that will-of-the wisp fruit of the Spirit seemingly just beyond my grasp.

    Your blog connected with me on many levels: Philippians 1:6 is my life verse.

    Your verse today is my writer's verse.

    Just had to let you know these truths as I sit unglued that I missed a chance at Lysa's free book. (I bought Crave and haven't finished it yet. Just bought Liz Curtis Higgs brand-new The Girl's Still Got It. Talked to her LIVE on Chris Fabry's program Wed.)

    So…just not meant to be, but we were meant to connect… I anticpate a great blog friendship.

    With a heart 4 Him,
    Bridgette
