To quote my friend, Wendy Pope, who inspired me to read through the entire Word of God in 2009: “WOO HOO“!!!!!!! I did it!!!!!!! I read through the NIV Chronological One-Year Bible in 2009.
Now, truly I give God the glory! His Word is my delight because I have tasted the goodness of the Word of God. His Word is truth. It is living and active. It is boundless in life, encouragement and conviction. “For the word of God is living and active. Sharper than any double-edged sword, it penetrates even to dividing soul and spirit, joints and marrow; it judges the thoughts and attitudes of the heart.” Hebrews 4:12
There were a few times when I got behind by a couple of days. And I’ll admit I quickly glanced over some of the hard-to-pronounce names in the book of Numbers and in genealogies throughout the Bible rather than reading them slowly. But, by His grace, I read through the entire Word in 2009.
If you’ve never done this, I encourage you to do it in 2010! Wendy is doing it again in 2010! Trust Him to speak to your heart through His word. “Then He opened their minds so they could understand the scriptures…” Luke 24:45
I am excited now for 2010 and what my daily morning quiet time with Him in His Word will reveal to my heart. I am trusting Him to transform my heart and to bring forth fruit as I abide in Him. He will convict and cleanse. He will encourage and guide. He will give new life. May all of us continually taste, savor and steep ourselves in the goodness of His Word!
“The Spirit of truth…will guide you into all truth.” John 16:12
“Sanctify them by the truth; Your word is truth.” John 17:17

Sharon, I am so proud of you. I, unfortunately, failed at my endeavor. So I think YOU ROCK! I am considering whether to try again in 2010, or to amend my goal to read the new testament in 2010. I got bogged down in Numbers and couldn't get out of it!
You are an inspiration! Go girl!

I am excited too Sharon! I did miss about a month back in the summer so I am even more ready to begin again tomorrow and get through it all this time 🙂 I saw the NIV at Lifeway and thought about using that one next year instead of the NLT. I am partial to the NIV, that is what I use to do my Bible studies and things. How much was it different? Were you around the same places as we were? I have not gotten it yet but my husband got a gift card for Christmas to amazon and said we each could get something. I thought about ordering that Bible. Any thoughts? You can email me at bmloftis@gmail.com if you have any thoughts for me.
Excited to join you again sister for '10!

Had to come back. I just popped over to Wendy's blog, and now I'm even more excited about reading the bible through this year.
I was a little unsure because you said you'd read the NIV, well, I bought the NLT. But, that's what she's using! Not that it would have mattered that much, but I'm… I'm just even more anxious to get started.
I didn't know two weeks ago when I bought the bible that I'd have an accountability group to help. WhooHoo! Go God!

Danielle and Brandee:
I did use the NIV One-Year Chrono Bible, not the NLT. It's just a personal conviction I have.
Wendy's wonderful study with the NLT seemed just a tad bit ahead of the NIV at times. However, we journeyed together and ended at the same place! Revelation 22:20-21 — "He who testifies to these things says, 'Yes, I am coming soon.' Amen. Come, Lord Jesus. The grace of the Lord Jesus be with God's people. Amen."
I didn't comment often on Wendy's daily posts but I did follow along, and it kept me encouraged and accountable.
Pray about which version of the Bible that God has for YOU to read through in 2010. You can start tomorrow with whatever you have and then get a different version if He leads you that way. 🙂
You can get the NLT at http://www.proverbs31.org
You can get the other versions at http://www.christianbook.com
Excited for you!!!
